Legendary actor, Dada Saheb Phalke awardee Dr. Akkineni Nageswara Rao is no more. Akkineni Nageshwar Rao (90) passed away on Tuesday night. He was battling with cancer. He had been fighting to win over the cancer disease. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Care Hospital in Hydrabad.

The great actor had featured in 256 films in Telugu and Tamil. He acted as lead actor in more than 240 films.  Born on Sept 20 in 1924 in Krishna district in a rythu family, he started his acting career on stage. In 1941 in Dharmapatni, he made debut on silver screen and went on to act till his last breath. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao last acted in Manam which is set for release this summer.

He was honored by the Indian Government with the second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. ANR played a variety of roles ranging from a charming prince to a frustrated alcoholic lover, from a valiant soldier to a holy saint, and from a college student to wayward person.

The entire state of Andhra Pradesh and the national film fraternity is mourning his death.
