Basanthi is a Love cum Terror Hostage Drama.
Story : Set in Hyderabad Old City, Basanthi is the Arts and Science college of our main lead Arjun ( Goutam ) and gang. Goutam falls in love with City commissioner`s Daughter ( Alisha). On the other side a Terrorist Gang is planning big activities to release their important leader. The Group when their plans got foiled by cops takes the Basanthi College and Students to Hostage. How the Students and Police manage to Defeat them forms the rest.
Story & Screen Play : Decent story with a pretty average screenplay. The film has its moments but the execution is hardly engaging. The 1st half deals with Love and builds up the Terror angle and is a bit better than all Terror 2nd half thanks to Music. May be it is not a film that can be done without stars.
Performances : Goutam as a college student and a coomon man turned saviour did a strictly okay job. A Much better actor and may be a Star could have pulled off this with ease. Alisha has limited role and is adequate. Tanikella, Shinde and few others are okay.
Songs & Background Music : Music is the sole positive in the film. If not for Mani Sharma, this probably would have been a terrifying experience for the viewer.
Direction : From Chaitanya D after `Baanam` this is hardly the film that does justice to the Talent he`s perceived to have got. But no, it surely ain`t a bad film.

Minus : Cliched Story & Execution.

BoxOffice Verdict :
The film was made on a low budget and found buyers in many areas. The Director who has got many laurels for his `Baanam` is the sole reason for the confidence shown by Trade. But this is hardly the film one expected from him. It neither serves the Urban viewers nor goes the Commercial route.
Bottom Line : Terror + Love!
